Mercedes to win the championship?

Today it was Mercedes turn to launch their 2023 contender, and what a car it was. The team looked fully refreshed and motivated after their disappointing last season and, I know it is too early to say, they look like they are ready to win the championship again.

Back in black

Looking to save weight and bring back memories of their last successful car, the Brackley based team have gone back to black. Toto Wolff described the decision as feeling “right” but admitted his team would be starting from behind this season. Despite this, the overall feeling was a positive one with Technical Director Mike Elliott saying, while it was a huge challenge to get there, the W14 would be a better car than last year.

Elliott says the team looked at every single area of the car and tried to find ways to improve it. He specifically mentioned the front and rear suspension which has been completely changed.

Motivation, motivation, motivation

This word was thrown around a lot during the car launch with both Lewis and George saying their team has worked incredibly hard on the car and they are ready to go out and fight. After 2022, all members of the team seemed to have a point to prove with George admitting they all want to avoid what happened the previous season.

Lewis Hamilton retirement?

With a lot of talk lately about Lewis retiring, he shut the rumours down today telling fans he is “planning to stay a little bit longer”. Looking at ease but full of motivation, he told fans how he continues to love racing and its challenges, always believing that he can get better. It’s a scary thought for other drivers on the grid that Lewis Hamilton might keep improving but, for those of us looking for a great title fight this season, it is just what we want to hear.
